Why Parents Fear the Needle

Last month MCNtalk raised the question of paranoia around the issue of vaccinations in Vaccinations and Autism: Junk Science Isn’t a Victimless Crime. As a follow-up to this issue—with its very serious public health implications—MCNtalk is exploring the issue further.

This article in the New York Times looks at why the public would be so receptive and responsive to the results of one very limited study, noting “[it’s] because the public’s underlying fear of vaccines goes much deeper than a single paper. Until officials realize that, and learn how to counter such deep-seated concerns, the paranoia — and the public-health risk it poses — will remain.” Read more…

Too often, children have soreness or symptoms after a vaccination. Too often, more significant symptoms appear after a vaccination. When public health officials pooh-pooh these issues, they’re asking us to pooh-pooh our children–which most of don’t want to do. If you want us to take your “science” seriously, then take our children seriously. Because it’s not families in service of “science” with us, it’s science in service of families. When “science” isn’t responsive, “science” can take a hike. Lots of people take homeopathic or naturopathic remedies, even if these haven’t been validated by double-blinded studies funded by pharmaceutical firms with the data tweaked to make more money for the firms. The abysmal record of medical “science” in protecting people and the MDeity attitude of people in “science” is to blame when people ignore the commands of public health officials.

I woiuld really like to see the “science” that Flu vaccines save lives.. the last time I read the little pamphlet that your can get before the shot.. it says bascially “this shot may or may not do anything and there is no data to back it up either way” Not only that, the % of people getting the flu after getting the shot is roughly equal to those who did not get the shot.. While I do not know for my self about any link between Autism and vaccines.. i do know that you shouldn’t put thimerosal, mercury, formaldehyde and their counterparts into your body, but our society does all the time with vaccines..
