We recently ran across an article citing a company that has reportedly devised a test to determine if pain is real. Here is the article, “Pain Validity Test Gets 30 Workers’ Compensation Claimants Back to Work Immediately.”
Here is the company that offers the test: http://veritassupporttesting.com. We have no experience with the test and would welcome comments from those who have reviewed or used it. It sounds like an interesting concept, but whether it meets scientific and clinical scrutiny is not clear to us.

I’d feel more optimistic about the validity of this testing were it not for the fact that following the link leads to a website for a lawfirm looking for clients….

When a careful, independant examiantion is done, it will pick up up most of the inappropriate cases. The key is to find truly independant examiners

The company, Veritas, was merged into http://www.MarylandClinicalDiagnostics.com. The Pain Validity Test was developed by a team of physicians from Johns Hopkins Hospital, and has been validated on 794 patients in 7 published studies. The Pain Validity Test is now available at http://www.MarylandClinicalDiagnostics.com, as is the Diagnostic Paradigm and Treatment Algorithm, which addresses the 40%-67% of chronic pain patients who are misdiagnosed. There are a series of published reprints, from peer reviewed medical journals, on SlideShare.net, which offer data on these tests.
