The Credentialing Process

MCN works with over 16,000 physicians and consultants nationwide. Prior to performing examinations for MCN, each physician/consultant undergoes a thorough credentialing process which includes the following steps:

  • verification of state medical licensure
  • verification of board certification (or residency completion for those who are “board eligible”)
  • submission of a CV/resume
  • verification of current, adequate malpractice coverage

Additionally, each physician and consultant submits the following items to MCN:

  • a completed and signed MCN physician/consultant agreement
  • a signed W-9

Consultants maintain current status on licensure and malpractice coverages. MCN requires immediately notification from our physicians and consultants if there are any changes in licensure status or malpractice coverage, or if there are other changes which would alter the previously provided information. Addtionally, MCN staff re-credential each physician on a regular basis to catch any lapses in coverage to ensure there are no complaints against anyone's license.

MCN uses the American Medical Association (AMA) master database, state licensing division websites, and applicable certifying board websites for primary-source verification of Board Certification status, state licensure status, residency information, medical school graduation, and other information. If the physician has had any reportable matters to a licensing board or the National Practitioner Database (NPDB), related information is carefully reviewed and MCN determines candidate appropriateness on a case-by-case basis.
